Kedah Sultan
Habzoud has delivered a variety of top-shelf Malay oils over the years; this has been one of our key focus areas, due to the variety and complexity Malaysian agarwood brings to the table. From Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, Kelantan, we have offered a variety of clean, deep, and complex oils to suit every Oud head's cravings. One region we haven't yet offered an oil from is the north-western region of Kedah, close to the border of Thailand and the oldest state in Malaysia. Wild incense-grade malacensis wood, old and with heavy resin content, ground up and cooked to produce an oil with a very unique opening and one of the deepest "green" "blue" "purple" and "golden" profiles I've encountered.
If you thought Zamarad 3 was green, this will have your mouth watering! The colour of the oil is a deep light green, and off the dipstick, it possesses the most unique tropical green mentholic note; it almost feels like an icy breeze hitting your nose. I've found this cooling effect in vetiver and in one other Oud oil, however this oil isn't green in terms of grassy at all but a more exotic green phasing from green to blue and then purple to gold. The smell is pristine, like a sharp Japanese katana sword, with the aroma slicing through your nose deep into your mind, body, and soul.
Once applied to the skin, the oil opens with green tropical mango with a fizzy cherry cola vibe with a backdrop of crushed mint leaves and fresh vanilla pods. Then the aroma shifts towards aquatic dark green dense jungles with black pepper and crushed cloves with wisps of gently heating a chunk of Malaysian agarwood. The oil shifts towards dry dusty earth, lemon and lime juice followed by sweetness think molasses or tamarind jam – a soft, mature sweetness. The drydown leans towards wild blue and purple florals with a juicy resinous golden woody base akin to Cambodian Oud.
This oil is still young but super well-rounded and complex in aroma. It captures a variety of Malay profiles combined into a single oil. I've had my nose glued to my wrist appreciating the sheer beauty and complexity of this oil. Definitely an oil for Malay fans. If you thought Zamarad 3 was good, this is in a completely different league of its own.
Complex, deep, refined and masterfully created.
