Aljannah Finale
The Aljannah series oils were ones that really reshaped people’s views on what artisanal Hindi Oud oil has to offer, why is it that Hindi oils are so loved when the market is flooded with ample low-quality, poor-smelling examples, except of course a few which artisans like those here on Ouddict have created. This wasn’t and isn’t the first time this vision has been put to practise, however in more recent times the 3 Aljannah series oils were a big hit in the Oud world and really helped shape Habzoud. They opened up people's eyes to what a new generation of clean Hindi Ouds have to offer, an experience like no other. An experience that will leave you mesmerised, shocked and questioning your olfactory senses, how can a Hindi Oud oil smell like this?
I’ve had countless messages in the last 3 years asking me if there ever would be another oil in this lineup, my answer was always no, or it’s in the pipeline, until now. The main reason being sourcing the raw material and how expensive it is to make oils of this calibre.
The final oil in the Aljannah series is here and ready to take you on that same journey which changed so many perceptions on why Hindi Oud is the best smelling Oud experience in the world. Also God willing, the final oil is true to the statement “save the best till last”. The raw materials for this oil are the highest used in the series, chunks of wood from a single tree which was cut on private land in Nagaland, upper Assam. Zero soak, cooked in copper, gently for 20 days and left to age for 1 year. The outcome is one of the prettiest, most beautiful and pristine Ouds I’ve smelt to date. This oil will blow you into an outwardly realm! Peace, tranquillity, meditative heaven.
AlJannah translates to heaven, a heavenly scent, the scent of heaven. Of course heaven will smell on a different level, however this is what I imagine it to smell like with this God-given gift of Oud. When I inhale this scent, honestly the feeling I get is pure joy, happiness and gratitude. The oil is thick and sticky but flows like nectar, its colour a rich gold, its scent reminiscent of the sun-drop diamond. This oil has zero barn, zero funk, zero leather… all those zeros but the dimensions and richness this oil has, it is a 4D scent.
You don’t even need to swipe this oil to fall in love with it, just sniff the dipstick and you will feel like royalty sat high up in the mountains, surrounded by every flower imaginable, its sweet intoxicating aroma will have you ask yourself “can this really be a Hindi Oud?” Vietnamese? Chinese? Cambodian? Borneo? NO. This oil is the definition as to why Hindi oud is one of the most sought-after, cherished and prized of all Oud specimens. I can guarantee anyone who truly understands oud or is new to the scene will place this oil high and treasure it, wear it on those special moments, occasions and sharing it, an act of charity.
Upon application, you are struck with a powerful yet alluring aroma of florals, jasmine, lilac, blue lotus sitting on a bed of dry clay baking out in the sun. There’s also notes of berries drenched in desi ghee and the aroma of aniseed, fennel and cardamom. In the middle, you sense glacier cherries on a bed of roasted almonds, following in with dry pipe tobacco and loose Ceylon tea. There’s a certain bitterness lurking in the backdrop akin to sinensis oils, the smell of pomelo fruit. As the oil dries down it fully reveals itself, yes this is a Hindi with that sweet, boozy incensey dry down.
This oil has a solid projection and lasts on my skin for hours. The overall experience is one which takes you on a real journey through vast regions and profiles until revealing its reality. One of the best Hindi Ouds you will encounter in your life. Not just an oil but a piece of Habzoud Hindi history in a bottle.
