Aquilaria Hirta is one of my favorite species of Agarwood. The main reason for this is its airy, dark, earthy, mysterious aroma, aswell as the fact that it is very rare to source now. Hirta Sultan captures the finest smell of incense-grade Candan wood from Malaysia. The raw material for this project was dense and yields were low, hence the end result was only limited to 3 tolas of oil. This is a very limited oil and one which will be a great addition to any oud lovers collection.

This oil smells like an all-in-one experience of Malay, Indonesian and Borneo Oud. Very complex, bold and full of charm, with a very unique aroma!

The aroma starts off sweet — not in a fruity way, more like sweet raw incense. The mid shapeshifts into creamy spices and the base is dark, bitter and alluring.

The colour of the oil is light gold with a silky smooth viscosity. Off the dipstick you are hit with a cooling, sweet forest floor with a hint of vanilla and powdery aquatics. Once applied to the skin, the oil blossoms with apple crumble, dense jungles, balsamic tree sap, fresh pottery, wisps of a chip on low heat and a bright shimmering woodiness. The middle turns spicy with cinnamon, clove and crushed pepper, followed by marmalade, vanilla and clotted cream. The oil then heads towards a darker, bitter phase with ancient woods, lime peel, dusty earth and rocks, with a juicy, powdery, woody drydown.

This oil evokes a feeling of calmness and stillness. It is crystal clean with zero off-notes. The oil is only a few months old and through its lively, young character it already shows wise, regal maturity. If you want to be transported into the depths of an ancient temple in the rainforest, this is just the oil for you.
